In July 2023, I saw Arielle Furtado for chronic joint pain I have experienced since childhood. Instead of investigating my physical symptoms, she immediately fixated on my history of anxiety, claiming that 'sometimes your brain can cause anxiety to present itself as pain' and that 'SSRIs can be very beneficial when it comes to chronic unexplained pain'. She dismissed my concerns entirely and sent me away with a new SSRI recommendation and no answers.Because of her dismissive and careless approach, my actual medical care was severely delayed. In February of this year, I was finally diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that causes severe and chronic pain and hEDS. Her medical gaslighting not only prolonged my physical suffering but also left me with a profound fear of seeking medical help, worried that I would be treated with the same disregard and not wanting to be talked down to.It is deeply disappointing and frankly, really disgusting, when a female care provider fails to advocate
