Missed a growth plate fracture. 7 year old with swelling 2-3 hours post fall injury at gymnastics. Knee was at least double it's normal size. She couldn't bend the knee. She couldn't bear weight on the leg. She cried and yelled when they moved her around for x-ray. I had to hole her foot toes up for x-ray cause she couldn't due to pain and inability to move the knee. He didn't immobilize the knee, didn't do anything. I asked if it was a ligament, if the swelling could be hiding a fracture, what the plan was and I got told 3 times 'there's nothing obvious on x-ray'. I had to ask how she was supposed to get around at school before they gave us crutches. I had to ask about a follow up to even get that. 5 providers, 4 locations, 3 organizations, and 8 days we finally saw a surgeon with the same practice who said he disagreed with 'there's nothing obvious on the xrays ' and could see the growth plate fracture on the same xrays he looked at 3 hours after injury and did nothing for.
