I had the unfortunate experience of a visit with her for psychiatry. As soon as she learned about my and my kid's autism diagnosis, her attitude towards me shifted. She treated me like I was incompetent to make my own decisions and she became more interested in whether or not I took certain medication while pregnant and nursing than providing care to me. She asked intrusive and irrelevant questions, despite my explanation of trauma and how it's hard to talk about. It felt like she was judging me, like I caused my kid's autism. Then she didn't respect my privacy and wanted excessive releases of information without allowing me to decide what information was shared about me, and had no interest in reassuring me that I have a right to choose who has access to my private medical information. She wanted unrestricted access. Psychiatrists shouldn't be judgemental or make patients feel unsafe.
