After spending 12 hours in the ED with my mother complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath, Dr. Quinn explained that there were no significant findings during her chest X-ray, CT scan or bloodwork and sent us home. I specifically asked if there was any fluid (I read “A moderate-to-large left pleural effusion with loculation” in the health portal). He said “no”. When he noticed I was reading the results he assured me there was nothing to worry about as “they put every little thing in those reports”. We went to PCP the next day to be told she had a collapsed lung (Atelectasis-clearly listed in the hospital report, but not mentioned at all to us by Dr. Quinn) and moderate to large amount of fluid around her left lung.She also had a moderate sized hiatal hernia in her esophagus. Though that was unrelated to the problem she was admitted for, I feel that result should have at least been discussed with us as it was at primary care the next day.
