After reading all the glowing reviews how is it that I have such a less than satisfactory visit? I was experiencing some pain in my knee from playing pickleball and I drove from Wilson because someone recommended Dr Skalak. Place was really busy with a lot of people in the waiting area. The people at the front desk were very nice and helpful. At this point I really thought I had done the right thing in coming here. The wait wasn't too long, maybe 45 min before I was called back. I informed the place that I had no insurance and asked if my knee could be looked at without getting X-rays first. I was told this wasn't an option. I waited in another area for X-rays and once again the attendants were very nice. The X-ray technician was also very nice and accommodating. Three X-rays were taken of my knee. I was then taken to a room to wait for the doctor. My whole visit was maybe a couple of hours total when doctor Skalak came in. You could tell right away he was in a hurry. He did not discuss the X-rays with me. He asked me a couple of questions and then informed me that I had a slight tear in my meniscus. I tried asking questions but was met with a blunt short answer every time. I asked if I needed surgery and he said that's up to me and for me to just keep doing what I do and see what happens, that I may be fine and if I need surgery it's all the same because a small tear is the same as a large tear. Keep playing. He probably saw me for a total of 5 min max. He asked me if I wanted a steroid shot and I said I guess since that's what he recommended. He immediately walks out the door and comes back maybe 5 min later and doesn't say anything and injects my knee. I asked again if it was ok to play because I was supposed to play that night. He said, "Go ahead, play, you're going to feel great for the next 2 hrs" "Do whatever you want". He did not discuss any physical therapy or exercises or tell me anything I could or should take. He just walked out. I said something to his nurse and she said that they had never seen him in such a hurry as he was that day. So of course I played that night (great advice) and now my knee is hurting worse than before my visit. I then read that it is recommended not to do anything or put any pressure on your knee for 24-48 hrs after receiving a steroid shot. I'm not happy and feel like I got screwed with bad advice and a non caring attitude. My bill was right at $800. I definitely cannot recommend this type of care to anyone. UPDATE: So I have attempted to resolve my issues and to get a 2nd opinion on my knee. After talking to different people on 4 numerous occasions I have yet to receive any call backs as promised. I finally got an itemized bill in the mail and tried discussing that today which got me nowhere except to wait on another call back. I did find out through one of my calls that the day I went to see Dr Skalak that him and his wife, who is pregnant had an appointment that afternoon and that was the reason for his rush and lack of attention. That's great to know. They offered me an apology and promised to call me back to address the situation. Still waiting.
