Patient Reviews

Dr. Deatherage was one of the most uncaring and disrespectful providers I've ever spoken with. He condescending, talked over me repeatedly for long periods of time (when I kept talking as he was talking over me, he would continue to keep talking even though he could hear I was talking and even after I asked him to please not talk over me multiple times), talked down to me about multiple conditions he is not a specialist in, and laughed at me when I said that my surgeon would be reading the imaging (in addition to whatever he would review). In his words, he said, "It's ridiculous to say that the surgeon would be reading over me - I have more training than they do in reading images, and that's a fact". I said it wasn't anything personal against him as a radiologist, but that it's common for my disease to be missed on imaging and for surgical specialists to pick up on what's been missed. He openly admitted that he'd laughed at me, when I called him out about this - and tried to justify why he'd laughed. He grilled me about whether I "actually had" any legitimate allergies that would put me at risk with Gadolinium and said, "but are you telling me you have published literature that talks about this cross-reactivity? Because I've never seen it." I told him I was seeing an Immunologist about a Mast Cell Activation Disorder (a condition that he admitted he did not know much about, but kept trying to question whether it was legitimate for my surgeon to order this imaging without contrast - despite not understanding about my individual condition or medical history). MCAS is why we were not comfortable with me moving forward the the MRI contrast or premedication for this contrast. When I said I've never been treated this way by a radiologist (typically they take your orders and process them how the ordering physician writes them rather than grilling a patient on the legitimacy of the orders/the patient's conditions), and how stressed I was about this interaction (I've only experienced imaging clinics taking the order from my doctor and proceeding, rather than being grilled on the legitimacy of my order/calling into question my medical conditions), he became defensive and said that him "taking the time out of his day" to talk to me "demonstrated that he cared". I've never cried from talking to a radiologist before, but I did with Dr. Deatherage.
