Dr. Hoffman was a full hour late seeing me, with no acknowledgment, explanation, or apology offered. He immediately jumped to a surgical solution to my ankle problem, and dismissed all my attempts to talk about nonsurgical alternatives (shoes, orthotics, ankle supports, exercises, etc.) He was dismissive of all those alternatives, saying they were not in his area. I asked if I could record our discussion on my phone because he was talking fast and I wanted to share his thoughts accurately with my family - he said no. I asked if he would be sure to write up his visit notes in some detail so that my family could understand, and he said that his notes are not written for patients. He was totally unhelpful in terms of trying to figure out how to live with or manage my condition. At the end, he did agree to prescribe some physical therapy. He made no attempt to understand where I was coming from, as surgery was the farthest thing from my mind when I scheduled the visit.
