Dr. Cortes was the infectious disease Dr. whom I saw at Boca Regional when they suspected I may have latent TB due to a positive blood test. Dr. Cortes prescribed the antibiotics to treat latent TB without even considering running a second blood test which I asked about doing. I actually received the prescription notification before I even had the chance to speak with him. Thank goodness I didn't fill the prescription. I got a second opinion from another infectious disease doctor in the area who said the first course of action was another blood test as there can often be false positives and he did not want to treat me unnecessarily. Those second blood test results came back and I tested negative. So if it were not for getting a second opinion I would be several months into taking heavy-duty antibiotics for no reason at all for an infection I never even had. Get a second opinion especially if you 'think' you may have latent TB. Glad I trusted my gut and went elsewhere.
