ERCP procedure by Dr. Walker with biliary stent placed Oct 2024. Approx 2 wx later, intense abdominal pain and nausea began and continued for 4 days. Called Dr and was sent for an X-ray. Later that day, a nurse at Dr. W's office called, Dr. was on vacation, who said the stent wasn't detected on the X-ray and that it had likely 'migrated.' A day later, pain suddenly stopped. Dr. called 5 days after X-ray, confirmed result and canceled the follow up appt to remove the stent as she assumed I'd passed it. This turned out to be false. The stent was discovered where it had been originally placed, on a CT scan (not X-ray) ordered by the surgeon who'd be performing my gall bladder removal in Dec '24. He said the pain I had was likely pancreatitis not the stent migrating. What?! After researching, I learned this is common after ERCP and that there are ways to reduce the risk; rectal suppositories and x-heavy IV fluid during stent placement, that weren't done for me. Overall, POOR patient care.
