Patient Reviews
Jun 25, 2025
Dr. Mitchum performed a modified single mastectomy on me in late April, 2025. He was the unfortunate one who had to break the news to me that I had breast cancer. He did so in a very calm and reassuring way, explaining my options and stressing that there was no need to make an immediate decision regarding a treatment plan, there was plenty of time to discuss the various options with my family. For me, I felt surgery was the best option. The surgery was a great success and Dr. Mitchum was able to get clear margins. It amazed me that post-surgery I had minor discomfort but NO pain. I did not take one pain pill during my recovery. His follow up care has been amazing. Dr. Mitchum is a gifted surgeon and a very humble and caring person. He and his staff have always treated us like family, not just a patient or diagnosis. The fact that Dr. Mitchum could work anywhere based on his skills & expertise, yet chooses to work in two rural hospitals, says a lot about his character.
