She recommended a surgical procedure to remove a bone with a hairline fracture on my pinky toe, that hadn’t healed after 3 months. She didn’t pin the two remaining bones to fuse. This has left my toe swollen, red and I’m in constant pain even after one year following the surgery. Sure I signed the paper that advises of risks with surgery. It’s required by all doctors. But when I asked, if in her opinion would the swelling go down, without hesitation she said “yes.” Of course, this conversation and many others were not documented in my medical record with this practice. Two separate specialists, orthopedic and podiatrist, stated the surgery should never have been done. It was unnecessary after reviewing the original x-ray. I’m on a bone medication that causes a delay in bone healing. She was aware of my medication list. Yet, she still recommended immediate surgery. The complications I’ve endured in the past year are too many to name here. If you’re happy with this doctor that’s fine. But if she ever recommends surgery, get a second and third opinion. It’s the smart thing to do regardless. It could save you a lifetime of pain. Board Certification and 20 plus years experience means nothing.
