Patient Reviews
Aug 03, 2022
Scheduled an appointment with Dr. Rubens at 360 Orthopedics in Lakewood Ranch in early May. Was told that I needed a hip replacement. I asked if I’d be able to attend a wedding in early July and he said that I should be ok barring any complications but that he’d prefer to do it after the wedding July 13. He also said he was changing practices but to call his current practice in July and they’d provide his new contact info in Manatee County. I called them 6 or 7 times to get his new phone number and ultimately was told he hadn’t yet left 360 Orthopedics and no one new what his new contact info was. I asked that he call me. No one called me. When I was able to finally get his contact info again after repeated calls, I called his new practice and was told he hadn’t yet started and that his new practice did not have VA credentials. His new practice was and is Manatee Physician Alliance. I asked to have him call me. His nurse called me, said that she had discussed my surgery with him and that he recalled me and still wanted to perform the hip replacement. When I called his new office to inquire about scheduling, I was told that he still didn’t have VA credentials and that it might take up to a year to secure them, After 4 to 5 more calls over another 3 weeks to his office and repeated calls to the Community Care division of the VA and a great deal more pain, I simply gave up on Dr. Rubens and have had to start this whole process over with another Orthopedic Surgeon. It’s now August 3, 2022. While I still do not have a surgery scheduled, the best guess estimate is sometime in November, nearly 6 months after I initially sought help from Dr. Rubens. While I understand fully that not every practice accepts VA patients, I blame Dr. Rubens for wasting my time and causing me undue pain if his new practice (Manatee Physician Alliance) was not going to allow him to accept me as a VA surgical patient. At the least he should have known that, he should have communicated to me the reason why what he had told me twice was not going to happen and that his new practice was more interested in profit than prior physician-patient commitments. Manatee Physician Alliance also has considerable culpability in this matter. The Office Manager with whom I spoke never asked what other health insurance I had or what other payment methods I could offer. All she wanted to do was dissuade me from pursuing the hip replacement with Dr. Ruben’s or anyone else within their practice. Absolutely a horrible experience with Dr. Rubens and Manatee Physician Alliance.
