I recently visited Dr. Peritz for a follow-up consultation two years after undergoing emergency open heart surgery for an aortic dissection and stroke (performed by an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon for whom I have the utmost respect and gratitude for saving my life). Regarding the appointment with Dr. Peritz, however, I couldn't help but feel that he was uninterested in my personal case. While he addressed one of my concerns, the interaction felt rushed and impersonal. There was little attempt to connect with me as a patient or to understand how my condition was affecting my daily life. At times, it seemed like he was simply going through the motions rather than genuinely engaging with me or showing empathy.I appreciate competence in a doctor, but I also value communication and empathy, especially when dealing with heart-related issues that can be both physically and emotionally stressful.
