David Sheinbein may just be the worst experience I've had at a doctor's office. Upon arriving, waiting to be seen, I could hear the doctors and nurses outside talking about getting drunk at a conference and who went where and what hotel. Okay...residents and last gaspers for a good time who want to fit in with the 20-somethings. God bless 'em. Next: a rookie doctor comes in, and I explain that I was referred by someone and what the diagnosis is. He has no idea what this is and starts to Google, he recommends a topical steroid...no, I tell him, we're way past that. I decide to save my story for Dr. Sheinben, surely he'll know more. Dr. Sheinbein walks in, it's clear he has better things he would like to do. I explain it to him, he tells me he went to a session at a conference about this and recommends a treatment that is so ridiculous, I ask if we couldn't start more conservatively. He scoffs. I say " I know we need to dig deep..." but before I can finish..."I DON'T NEED TO DIG DEEP!" I politely tell him what I mean is that there isn't a lot of information on this, and I know that it is complicated. Okay, I think...so this guy a loose cannon. Fair enough, I don't know what is going on in his life. I stay because treatment is my first priority, but everything in me wanted to leave. Also, not once has he looked at what I"m referring to on my hands as a reaction to the Covid vaccine. Not once. He also tells me the Dr. who recommended me should do what I am asking. "Are you saying you want me to return to the doctor who referred me to your care?" That quiets him. But it's clear. He doesn't care. He gives me the treatment, it works (ish), and I schedule my next appointment. I left dehumanized, but at least I received treatment; I was willing to put up with the misogyny (yes, it was dripping from the guy) and the dismissal because...well, I needed the treatment. It didn't feel great. Yesterday, I received a call from the admin saying that my insurance is out of network so they are dropping my appointment...can't I pay out of pocket? I ask. No. We've canceled your appointment...1 hour before I was to leave. "I have an open network plan, there's a number I can give you." No. You'll have to take care of that... I am going to let the doctor who referred me know who she is referring patients to, while established, is the equivalent of a very bored hamster on a dermatology wheel that just isn't doing it for him anymore...and he's gonna let you know it sideways. If you have an appointment or are considering it - do yourself a HUGE favor and find someone whose reviews don't average 3 stars.

A board certification represents a provider’s dedication to ongoing training in one or more specialties, including the completion of intensive exams.
