I came with my sister in law to get an ultrasound for the first time and our last. The receptionist and nurses were very nice, caring, gentle so the environment already felt welcomed...that is until Dr. Woods came into the ultrasound sound room. She did not even acknowledge us, very distant, no hello..nothing. She looked at the ultrasound, mind you right next to my sister in law, and when she was about to talk to us she said “never mind” and walked out mumbling “they won’t understand because of the language.” Confused, embarrassed, and belittled especially as someone with a degree, I told the nurse I will translate and the nurse humbly explained what Dr. Woods was supposed explain (the risk of pregnancy over 35). I never felt such prejudice, stereotyped from a person who is in a profession that is supposed to care about people lives. Through my experience she’s not a fan of minorities.
