My family had a horrible experience with Dr. Belanger's aftercare, or rather the serious lack of aftercare. After a triple cervical fusion, his office would only prescribe 5 days of pain medication at a time. If the 5th day fell on a weekend? Too bad, you're effed. Running out of meds and having to go through withdrawals landed us in the ER twice on weekends for dangerous withdrawal symptoms. His office could have cared less when we explained this to them. They also completely cut off meds a week earlier than they had told us WITH NO PLAN IN PLACE FOR WEANING OFF SAFELY. This is despicable and dangerous. People should not come off high dosages of opiates AND benzodiazepines THAT THEY PRESCRIBED cold turkey. People can die from that, and his office was degrading, condescending, and unsympathetic when we raised these concerns. The surgery itself seems to have gone ok but their attitude towards patients after the fact is abhorrent. Please find another surgeon if you are able to.

I had my L4, L5 & S1 fused together by Dr. Belanger in 2018. I had previously had my fused by him with no problems. So I felt safe to go with him on my back. From day one I had problems with my surgery. I was told over and over that it would get better with time. That wasn't the case. I tried to get help from Dr. Belanger with no avail. It seemed that after he found out my surgery went bad he didn't want to have anything to do with me. I had my two month appointment with him and all he talked about was that even though a person has back surgery doesn't make him disabled and that no matter what he would not allow a person to take advantage of the insurance company. He didn't even check to see what problems I was having at the time. He didn't start me on PT until 3 months after surgery. I was told to go home and act like a 75 year old man. Every doctor I have been to has stated that he did me no favors by waiting that long. It has been well over a year and I'm still suffering from my surgery. Dr. Belanger didn't even attempt to try and find me some relief. I ended up going to other Neurosurgeons to try and help guide me. I’m still suffering from the Surgery he performed.
