I was desperate to get an appointment with a GI because I was getting so bloated to the point of barely being able to eat or drink. Rush couldn't see me for 3 months, Northwestern couldn't see me for 6 months but I got an appointment with Dr. Elton for 3 days out (should have been a red flag that I was able to get an appointment so easily). He took his time and listened to my symptoms. I had been dealing with bloating for almost 3 months which seemed to have been triggered by what I thought was food poisoning. I asked him if I could get tested for SIBO but he didn't think I could have had it. He did not recommend any sort of testing. He wanted me to take fiber supplements and do diaphragmatic breathing for a couple weeks then report back to him to see if I'd need to do anything else. I was hoping for some other solution to deal with the immediate problem- me being so bloated that I couldn't eat or drink- but that didn't seem worrisome to him. I was pretty frustrated and made an appointment the following day with a holistic doctor. The holistic doctor did not understand why Dr. Elton would rule out SIBO. She also ordered labs for me, which I would have expected Dr. Elton to have done. She gave me an herbal supplement (that has proven to have given me some relief) to help with the bloating until we figured out what's the cause.
