I was a patient of hers when I went to Yale New Haven Hospital's ER with severe shortness of breath, a clear symptom of heart failure. I was diagnosed with pneumonia, based off the results of a chest X-ray. But unfortunately, she assumed that the pneumonia I had was the full cause (despite my symptoms of heart failure) and didn't check for cardiac issues. This delayed my heart condition from being discovered, yet I was admitted for the pneumonia. A few days later, when I was diagnosed with heart failure, one of the doctors told me that "a mistake has been made" and that my condition "was overlooked." The doctor who told me this said that if the person who saw me in the ER ordered an an EKG, my heart condition would have been diagnosed and treated that day, rather than a few days later. When I reported it to Patient Relations, they acknowledged that "if an EKG was ordered, it would have indicated serious concern."
