Dr. Surla called us in to show us an image of my friend's esophagus and to emphasized what a severe case of Barrett's Esophagus he has. It existed for 10 years without treatment. Dr. Surla then recommends biopsies to see if there are malignancies. FOUR weeks pass with NO information given on the biopsy results. Upon calling his office, one of his assistants said he has Barretts. We STILL FEEL UNEASY. No call from the doctor (1) ; no sending the results to our primary care doctor who referred us (2); No coming to the phone to tell the results (3); Inadequate answer from the assistant that he has Barretts, the original diagnosis, with no mention of the biopsy findings (4). Dr. Surla is likable and apparently expert in his performance of procedures, but there's a big part of doctoring he left undone in this case--a BIG Part. How much worry and fear we've been through, thinking the biopsy result were so bad no one wanted to deliver the fatal results.
