Our father got diagnosed with Stage four Prostate Cancer that has already spread to his bones. We, as the family have done so much research. If you have done research you know that a diet is recommended when starting chemo, during chemo and after. They state to check with your doctor in what they recommend. When we asked Dr. Saba his response was he can eat whatever he wants. Sugar, red meat and processed meats are suppose to be highly limited. When we told him what we read on the website, he spoke to us like we were dumb. Made the comment, "Ya that is why I offer a big bowl of candy in the chemo room to my patients". Whether that be true or not, its a rude smarky comment. But then he continued with the price, made it very clear on how pricey treatment was. Made the comment, "You need to go start pulling up your tile in your bathroom, and digging up all your money. This will be pretty pricey." Like we were trash. Also, during the appointment we asked what stage dad was. His response was "ugh stage four. I mean this is pretty bad prostate cancer. Just be thankful it isn't pancreatic cancer". Our regular doctor is in Olney, however when Dr Saba asked us where we wanted to go, Olney or Effingham, to see a surgeon for the port..he asked where dad lived. Which is by the lake here in Effingham. Dr. Saba said then why drive to Olney, there are plenty surgeons here. dad asked for a surgeon here in town. Which I don't recall his name. However, they told us okay. Then we get a call from a doctors office in Springfield to schedule the surgery for the port...and they went on to tell us they don't accept his insurance... WAIT Springfield?? Yet Dr. Saba complain Olney was a far drive.... We also asked the front desk if there was any information on the cancer, the treatment or what to expect... since evrything we asked Saba seemed to be a burden. He also looked at his watch anytime we asked a question, and even said I need to get going. Not to mention he was running behind anyway. The ladies at the desk told us no, there weren't information packets. We asked if anyone could come explain to us, as we had questions. They offered a nurse to come up. Dad was in the back getting an injection in his belly. When he came out, he was ready to just leave. He said he felt like the next cattle to be butchered so they can empty the chair. We have decided to switch doctors. We feel Dr. Saba's bed side manner is rude, and inappropriate. We also feel he does NOT have the best interest in our father. Cancer is a scary thing! They may hear it every single day, but MOST people don't know much about it, until they or a loved one experience it. I am highly unsatisfied with Dr. Saba. I have heard great things about Dr. Dy there. However, I wouldn't recommend Saba for my cat, let alone my dad. Cancer is a scary journey, and if you can't trust your Doctor with your best interested I highly recommend getting another opinion. It was hard enough to get dad to go to the doctor anyway. let alone be treated like trash.

A board certification represents a provider’s dedication to ongoing training in one or more specialties, including the completion of intensive exams.
