Dr. Douglass performed a sub-total resection on me to remove GIST from my stomach, small intestine, and transverse colon in December 1977 when I was 13 years old. The first surgery of its kind on an adolescent. Then cancer recurred in 1989 in my liver, kidney, gall bladder and was rendered inoperable. It recurred again in my liver and abdomen in 2002. Currently, at 56, I am the proud mother of a healthy 28 and 26 year old, recently retired from UB after a 25 year teaching career, began a career as a paralegal, and earned a 2nd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in October 2019. Thank you Dr. Douglass for not giving up on me.
