I see Dr Schmolck with my 93-year old mother who suffers from Alzheimer's. I was grateful to find a neurologist with expertise, experience and interest in Alzheimer's in Des Moines. Dr Schmolck sees my mother once a year and her nurse will see my mother every six months if we have questions or concerns. When we moved her into an Alzheimer's facility, I continued to see Dr Schmolck with my mother so that we could have a second opinion on how she is doing. It has been valuable since the facility has questionable care, such as changing her prescriptions. Dr Schmolck speaks German and my mother was born there, so sometimes they'll speak in my mother's native language and it wakes my mother up. Pure joy! I appreciate that personal touch. Dr Schmolck is very straight forward with me about what stage my mother is in, what to expect and where we are headed. We have tried various medications and options, such as exercises she might need. I appreciate having someone to work on this long journey.
