I have melasma and made the mistake of trusting Dr. Sando with my skin. Instead of improving my condition, he performed an IPL laser treatment—a procedure that is widely recognized as unsafe and contraindicated for melasma, especially on olive-toned skin like mine. He never warned me, never obtained proper informed consent, and never disclosed the well-documented risks associated with this laser. This wasn’t just disappointing—it was completely avoidable. The result? My melasma is now permanently worse—darker, more widespread, and far more difficult and expensive to treat. I’ve spent months in emotional agony and thousands of dollars on corrective treatments, all to repair damage that should never have happened. When I brought my concerns to his office in May, I was met with dismissiveness, deflection, and zero accountability. The lack of honesty, ethics, and basic patient care has been absolutely devastating. If you have melasma or a deeper skin tone, do not—under any circumstances—allow this provider to perform IPL on you. I filed a formal complaint through Ascension that took over three months to resolve, only to be told they would not take responsibility or even refund the original treatment that caused this in the first place. I’m now forced to spend thousands more on corrective lasers (Moxi, $500 each, with at least 3–6 required) to try to undo the damage.
