I went to the ER during a mental health crisis, seeking help after I ran out of a regularly prescribed medication. I had already contacted my provider, but due to a rescheduled appointment, I was left without support and had no other option but to turn to the emergency room. When I explained my situation to this doctor, I felt completely dismissed. Rather than listening or showing compassion, he treated me as if I were trying to abuse the system—ignoring my medical history, diagnosis, and emotional state. I left feeling humiliated, unsupported, and worse than when I arrived. Mental health patients deserve empathy, not suspicion. This kind of treatment only discourages people from seeking care when they truly need it.
