I saw Dr.Markar for a new patient visit at UCLA Pain Management. The appointment lasted approximately 5–10 minutes and included a very brief physical exam. No treatment was provided; I was advised to obtain an MRI. The visit was billed as a high-level consultation (CPT 99244), resulting in a significant out-of-pocket charge. I requested a coding review, which was ultimately declined based on physician documentation time. Patients should be aware of how brief visits may be coded and billed.
