At first visit for ob I thought he was good. However after prescribed meds stopped working and stinging and burning was returning in full force he prescribed a vaginal cream every other night at bedtime. It took several additional weeks to start feeling relief. At the next visit I said I wasn't happy with this procedure mainly because it was just barely keeping the uncomfortable feeling down. He seemed aggravated at this and went on a rant about menopause. I sat patiently and listened but out of nowhere he said to me that I could make all the faces I wanted to and this was probably the best it was going to get! Wow. He realized his rudness and offered his hand shake as a piece offering. Leaving he said see you in 3 month's. Trying to refill the cream I discovered whoever entered the dose entered it incorrectly and I wasn't able to get a refill for another month! What?? When I called the office to tell them of their mistake I was told that dr.was seeing other patients and would not be able to submit my problem's until after that. Also to check my emails for the correction. I have already missed one dose now and am going into 2 missed doses. I have yet to receive the email and am well into the next day. So I have lost the respect and trust of this dr and his office. I am looking for another dr.as I will not be returning to this dr. I would not recommend him to anyone. He is rude and his office is just as bad.

I have no concern regarding Dr. McCarthy’s medical or surgical abilities; however, I was disappointed during my last visit. I arrived 10 minutes before the appointment and had to wait 55 minutes after my appointment time to see him. When being led to the examination room, a young lady said she needed to give me something called an anal swab and handed me papers to sign. The papers indicated this procedure may be considered experimental by the insurer and if they didn’t pay I would be responsible for payment. My appointment had been scheduled for months, I would have liked to check with my insurance company ahead of time and studied more about this procedure to assess whether it was necessary. Upon further reading of the papers, it stated this procedure was being done for a prostate biopsy. No one told me I needed a biopsy! I didn’t want to have another one. I would have appreciated speaking to the doctor first about all this before it was thrust on me. In explaining the location of an area on my body, the doctor poked me in this private area before asking or clearly indicating he would be doing so. I didn’t appreciate that. Finally, he was irritated and raised his voice after I asked questions about test results. I don’t like feeling vulnerable and that my health is out of my control only to have those feelings reinforced when I go to the doctor’s office.

Finding a reliable urologist in such a critical situation was challenging, but John McCarthy stepped up and guided me through the excruciating pain with utmost professionalism and care. From the moment I met John, his dedication and expertise were evident. His down-to-earth approach, profound knowledge, and compassionate understanding immediately put me at ease. John's exceptional decision-making skills came to the forefront when I faced a complex issue involving a large kidney stone blocking my ureter near a major artery. He skillfully installed a stent to prevent further damage and carefully evaluated the best procedures to safely remove the stone without compromising my health. I cannot recommend John McCarthy highly enough for his outstanding medical expertise, compassionate care, and meticulous attention to detail. If you are in need of a skilled urologist who truly cares about his patients' well-being, John McCarthy is the one to trust. Thank you, John, for your exceptional care and support during a challenging time.
