I called the on-call doctor today which happened to be Dr. Kari Hultgren. Although I have been under medical care for the same condition for several weeks she refused to help me, kept interrupting when I was talking and said they don’t prescribe medications over the phone. Several of my family members (one of them being a nurse at Avera) were quite confused by her statement and consulted with two different Avera doctors and they both said that they do still indeed prescribe meds over the phone. It is incredibly disheartening to have someone who is supposed to want to help and she flat out refused to do so. I was also surprised how much she just didn’t seem to care as her tone and approach was quite different from many other doctors we have seen and I would never pay someone who doesn’t care about me or my care as I wouldn’t waste my time calling into a doctor if it wasn’t needed.
