Dr. Schwartz cared for my cousin in neurocritical care ICU after a traumatic brain injury and catastrophic brain bleed. While we waited by his bed for hours to speak to her she made sure to make herself absent. When paged to communicate her response was this is not appropriate I will call when I have time. Then she spoke to his wife who barely understood anything given medical language and partial English language. When I as a physician interjected to speak to her about medical concerns about him, she spent more time flaunting her credentials, dictating how and when she could be reached about medical concerns, talking more than listening without any empathy for family. She needs to participate in a fellowship that teaches her how to speak to patients and family with empathy and how to listen without confrontation.
