I came in as a new patient of Dr. Joy's for annual well-woman visit. When I made the app't, I may have mentioned a minor chronic condition that was relevant for my GYN to know. I did also talk to Dr. Joy about the condition at the app't. After the app't, the practice billed the visit not as an annual preventative well-woman (covered by my HDHP) but as an app't to discuss chronic condition (not covered). Cedars billing dep't explained to me that because we had talked about the condition, they were no longer treating the app't as preventative. This stunned me--I have been seeing my non-Cedars PCP and discussing all sorts of issues for years without having the dr turn around and bill this as anything other than preventative annual visit. Thanks to this experience, I am now going to hesitate to mention health issues to drs at annual appointments--terrible incentives created by this practice! Will be looking outside Cedars for a provider who takes the values of preventative care seriously
