I took my elderly father while in an acute delirium crisis to Mayo in hopes that we would get a full neuro assessment to determine the cause. Dr. Torres, before offering any type of testing or evaluation, asked if we had considered Assisted Living. He is 90 with no history or diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimers, he has no additional chronic health issues and her immediate assessment was to put him in a home. They ran the obligatory tests, and when everything came back clean, they sent us home with the advice to keep him busy. I am disappointed that this type of dismissive care is acceptable at Mayo. I expected the standard of care Mayo has been known to provide. They left us with no answers or direction - just toss him aside. We ended up taking him to St. Joe’s because it is connected with Barrow and they performed the necessary tests and MRI showed he had 2 acute strokes in the last 72 hours.
