42 minutes ago NEW As a middle-aged woman, I initially scheduled an appt with Dr. Fiske because she is credentialed with NAMS and I wanted to talk about perimenopause. At my first appt, I had her do my annual because I was there anyway. Unfortunately, she discovered things were not normal. (As an aside, I’m trying not to be mad that I had major symptoms of issues forever that somehow several other providers missed, causing me to live with unnecessary pain and discomfort for years.) I ended up needing a endometrial biopsy followed by a total hysterectomy, salpingectomy (fallopian tube removal) and oophorectomy (ovary removal, just one). Truthfully, after a very traumatic gyno visit a few years ago, was absolutely terrified of all this, but Dr. Fiske was so reassuring, gentle, and patient — not to mention she knows her stuff. Through the whole process (being the Nervous Nelly than I am), I was running everything past a brilliant APRN friend of mine who I would literally trust with my life, and she repeatedly said that Dr. Fiske renews her faith in medicine and is — and I quote — a “rockstar” and a “unicorn”. Can’t really get a better endorsement than that! Anyway, my surgery was as uneventful as such a thing can be. I just saw her again for a follow-up, and to pick up where we left off with the perimenopause discussion. I feel very lucky to have found her, and confident that she’s the right person to help me make well-informed choices during this wacky time in my life.
