Awful. I wish I could give 0 stars. Starting with the first appointment, when I was only given a normal metal finger splint with one band of Kerlix tape for a fractured pinky tip and was told to wear it most times, but not too often (like what?), I should have obtained a second opinion. I am a nurse practitioner and was bandaging it much better myself at first than he did (however at that point I started doubting what I was doing and followed his bandaging instructions, which I absolutely should NOT have done). Although it was discussed, I was dissuaded from having a pin placed because of the very detailed risk of infection. At the follow up appointment (3 weeks later) when the very tip of my pinky was somewhat displaced and was somewhat eroded, he told me to wait another 3 weeks to follow up and have an outpatient xray done before I returned( and also with the same splint and set of instructions to wear it most times but take it off alot). I went to Union Memorial's amazing hand center for a second opinion and Dr. Kenneth Means was amazing! ONE WEEK after seeing Dr. Thomas for that second follow up, the tip of my pinky had ended up BEHIND my first joint on an xray done at the center. Dr. Means gave me a clear plan, gave me an option for pin placement that included putting the top of the pin UNDER the skin to prevent infection, because the pin may have to stay in for longer than 6 to 8 weeks. I also had two custom splints made in office. I was in for surgery two days later. I DO NOT recommend Upper Chesapeake for any orthopedic surgery as I had the same experience with a dislocation in my foot where Dr. White pushed off surgery for almost a year before (yet again!) I went to Union Memorial and was given a clear plan of action. Avoid this place and this provider at all costs.

What’s a board certification and why is it important that my provider has one?

A board certification represents a provider’s dedication to ongoing training in one or more specialties, including the completion of intensive exams.
