Patient Reviews

In 2017, Dr. Herzog implanted a penile prosthetic device to treat my ED. That device failed after only 5 years. Though I have no reason to think that the device's failure was because of something done wrong by him in the implantation process, in my consultations with him he never informed me of the possibility that the device might fail after only 5 years. In fact, on a number of occasions, he had emphasized that he thought the device would "last a lifetime". In my opinion, he "oversold" the device by neglecting to inform me that there was a risk that it would fail after a relatively short period of time. I believe he should have done so even if that risk was slight. During my office visit with him once the device had failed, he took no accountability for the situation, and offered me no special accommodation or assistance to rectify the matter. In my opinion he made no effort to act as my advocate in any way. The only "solution" he offered was to simply do it all over again - a painful, expensive, and potentially risky prospect. A few days after that visit, after I had indicated my displeasure in a follow-up survey sent to me by his office, he called to express his disagreement with my survey responses, said he was "offended" by them (there was nothing offensive, disrespectful, or untrue in my responses), and told me that he wouldn't see me again as a patient. (I wonder how often he refuses to treat a patient simply because that patient completes a survey in a manner which he doesn't like.) I found this reaction to be unprofessional. Several weeks later, I received a package containing records from my visits with him and other AUS doctors who I'd seen over the years. While reviewing the record of my visit to discuss the failed device, I observed a number of statements which I considered to be at best inaccurate and at worst misleading. In the past couple of months, I have sent letters to Dr. Herzog and the President of the medical group he's in describing in detail my displeasure with the situation and my disappointment with how I felt I was treated as a long-term patient of the practice. I have yet to receive any reply to them. Patients rely upon and trust their doctors to always fully inform them of all of the risks associated with medications, treatments, surgeries, etc. In my opinion, Dr. Herzog failed to do that for me.
