I went to the ER primarily for a migraine. I’ve often been treated like a drug seeker when that’s not the case. It takes a lot for me rk be seen given my medical trauma. Dr. Maruska was warm and friendly right out of the gate. I was scared when he asked if a certain narcotic works for me, because I did want to say he’s and be accused of drug seeking, but also knew it worked. He gave me two pills that are longeer acting and two iv meds, one narcotic and one antibistamiThis wiped my migraine completely way and I can do on my scheduled vacation now! More so than the medication, it was the way he treated me. Like a human, suffering. I was treated with respect, dignity and empathy. He genuinely cares. I left in tears because my experience has not been historically such. Medications aren’t always the right answer for things and that’s ok… that’s why empathy from doctors and nurses play a big role in whether a patient is shared or not. Has everything to do with how we’re treated. thank you!
