Saw this doctor about 3 months after getting a Foley catheter in ER. Since then saw two other (awful) urologists, another ER trip for UTI, and more. Both this (and previous) doctor wanted to do a cystoscopy, which is very very painful. The severity is highly variable from patient to patient. I also have multiple (recently diagnosed) aneurysms, and written orders from cardiologist to minimize pain and stress accordingly. He refused to give me anything for the pain, or anesthesia. I was only offered an anxiety drug than I have tried before and is known not to help. The next urologist, and a month later I found a good one. He finally removed the catheter, checked for retention 4 times (found none), and I have been fine ever since.
