How likely are you to recommend Dr. Maler?
Insanely predatory. Found them through my insurance list of in-network providers and visited Dr. Maler as an Endo. Saw the doctor for roughly 10 minutes before determining it was not a good fit. Main issue at time of visit was that their availability is scheduled out for 6+ months so it's very difficult to receive timely ongoing care. Fast forward a few months and they sent me a bill for $256.48. For this 10 minute consultation, they billed a total of $867 of which my insurance paid $575.52. After calling the doctor's office and my insurance to understand why I received these bills for a 10 minute office visit that is usually fully covered by a co-pay of $35, I learned it's because they billed my insurance as an outpatient visit at a hospital even though it was just a regular doctor's office on the UCI campus. They also bill separately for the facility AND the doctor for the same visit. This was apparently disclosed in the fine print and legalese of their intake forms, but it was NEVER explained by a human when I called to make sure they were in network nor when I visited the office to fill out more forms. The staff was completely unwilling to waive or reduce these asinine fees. The greed and predatory nature of this facility is truly appalling. Avoid at all costs unless you want to go broke from their ludicrous billing practices. Absolutely disgusting behavior especially from a non-profit institution of higher learning.
