Dr Juma for several years been pushing a urolift operation, even though my symptoms for BHP have stablized and are rated at mild using the standard questionaire. He also required I see him every 6 mos to get my prescriptions renewed. He insisted that visit be on 2 consecutive days, one for a urination test, and the next to review the test and my conditions. And lastly he tried to sell me a $90 per month service for patient reminders, something I had no use for. On my last visit he pushed for the urolift again without even having me fill out the questionaire that determines severity of BHP. At my PCP's recommendation, I made an appointment with the head of urology at scripps- had to wait 3 months to see him - to ask him to assess whether I needed the operation. After a thorough exam he told me my case is very mild and there is no need for it, nor do I need to return every six months. My condition was mild at worst and actually took me off one of my medications. He then apologized that I had gotten such poor advice from Dr. Juma, even though he didn't have anything to do with him - he was apologizing for the profession. In retrospect Dr Juma was focusing more on increasing his revenue. Very disappointing after being a patient of his for several years. You think he would care, but he never had my health as his priority.
