My brother who experiences homelessness was completely dismissed within 15 minutes because he "uses the ER too frequently and was just there." Meanwhile, he has multiple health concerns and has been hospitalized numerous times (so he isn't making his ailments up) and shouldn't be dismissed just because of being homeless. What a disgrace.

I couldn't give zero stars which is unfortunate, because that's the level of care I experienced. I had the misfortune of having Dr. Birdwell as an ER patient who had experienced a cervical spine injury at home that caused uncontrolled jerking and new onset hypertension 200s/100s. This physician did not perform a neurological exam on me, did not check my pupils nor pull my face mask down to check for facial droop. He also did not use a stethoscope on my chest, nor did he make physical contact at my bedside. I showed up in a home travel neck pillow citing inability to hold my own head up because of my muscles. He told me to take it off - it wasn't needed - but not before throwing me in a CT scanner with the neck brace ON to prove I was stable. He did not treat my hypertension, complaints of chest pain nor the myoclonus activity that was uncontrollable. He sent me home but at discharge I told him he better not falsify his medical record saying he examined me because he did not. Dr. Birdwell is burnt out and apathetic. His lack of care and assessment caused me to return a second time to the ER to attempt to get control. My primary care doctor could not believe he didn't take me seriously. I have reported him to Saint Luke's and the medical board. He is arrogant and dangerous if he thinks he can assess emergency room patients from the doorway as if we were in an urgent care discussing the flu. This is what is greeting your emergency room patients at Saint Luke's Plaza and it's a complete embarrassment to your hospital. You might want to call ahead and see if he is on shift because you might consider a competing hospital with doctors who still have a bit of that Hippocratic Oath in them. If you have a bad experience with this physician I beg you to go through the steps of patient recourse because that is the only way doctors like this can be held accountable for doing the bare minimum to collect their paycheck. I was a patient on January 18th. I will remember Dr. Birdwell for the rest of my days because as a retired nurse with a 25 year history in high acuity medicine I can assure you this man is a liability, not an asset amongst the ER attendings at Saint Luke's Plaza.
