DO NOT go to this OB if you are pregnant. I scheduled my first appt post positive pregnancy test and LMP was 11 weeks prior to my appt. Since it was my second pregnancy, I knew what to expect. First red flag was that she used a Doppler to listen for a heartbeat (which my first OB did not use on me until mid-second trimester into third trimester). She even warned that it would be difficult to hear the heartbeat because it was early on. After unsuccessfully trying for a few minutes, I asked if she could do an ultrasound because I knew that would confirm baby and based on my LMP I was nearing my second trimester. Her response to me was that I should have my hCG levels drawn and told me that I probably wasn’t as far along as I thought I was. Even despite me giving my exact date of my LMP and knowing pretty much date of conception as well, I knew I couldn’t have been *that* far off. But I followed her recommendation. I was told to get labs done two days apart and depending on how the levels were, then she’d be able to predict how far along I was. Second red flag, turns out that the first lab she sent me to take was a quantitative test (the correct one which gives the exact hCG number) and the second one was a qualitative test (which simply indicates if there is hCG present or not) - a mistake by her staff when writing my lab slip (intentional or not, I don’t know because every lab order can be billed). So her office ends up calling me the day after the second lab resulted and told me that it was wrong and that they sent a stat lab for me to do another quantitative test that needs to be completed that day. Because it was so short notice, I was forced to be a walk-in. I had no childcare and had to take my 2yo toddler with me which ended up taking 2.5 hours total - nightmare. When I was finally called in, the phlebotomist said she could not find the supposed stat order. I ended up calling the office and asked them to talk to the phlebotomist directly and staff gave her a lot of attitude. So I was forced to physically drive to their office pick up a new slip and go back. A huge inconvenience to me and luckily the phlebotomist let me back in after leaving as they were very busy. I would later learn that the phlebotomist could not find the order because even though they verbally told me to go to Quest, they actually sent the order to LabCorp - again another display of incompetence by staff. Since I was able to see my results online prior to my follow up visit, I noticed that the hCG levels did not increase as a normal early pregnancy would. This left myself and my husband extremely worried and stressed for 2 days, losing sleep, going down rabbit holes on the internet. I finally go in for my follow up and she explained to me that my hCG levels haven’t doubled like they should have and I once again ask her to do an ultrasound because I had no other symptoms (bleeding, pain, etc). She was hesitant and told me she didn’t want me to panic if she didn’t see anything. At that point she already caused me so much stress and anxiety that I just needed clarification. Seconds after putting the ultrasound on my belly, we see a baby on the screen and verbatim she said “Oh! I didn’t expect that. Congratulations you’re about 12 weeks”. Instead of it being a happy moment, I. Was. Livid. All of the anxiety, time, and money wasted doing all those unnecessary labs, having to get poked 3 times when she could have gotten her answer in 2 seconds with an ultrasound during my first appt. I should have trusted my gut, knowing how far along I was and gone to a different OB to get clarification instead of subjecting myself to a week long ordeal. Dr. Moola is in it for the money. Every visit with her would result in copay and every lab she could bill for, she did. I didn’t realize it until after I changed OB they told me she ordered a drug test on me which isn’t normal. I have zero history of anything that would indicate that was appropriate. Again, another lab to bill and make money off of. I take some accountability for not paying closer attention to the lab slip but as it is common to give urine samples during pregnancy, I did not think anything of it. Third red flag - when I called to say I was switching care, the receptionist told me that if for any reason I wanted to switch back I would never be able to be a patient there again. It was the strangest “threat” but I was glad to hear it because I will never step foot in that office again. I do not trust Dr. Moola’s intentions and would not wish anyone else to have the same horrible experience as I did. First trimester of pregnancy is a vulnerable time and she put me through so much unnecessary stress and anxiety that was 100% preventable.
