I went to see Dr. Susan Sam as my primary care doctor and I exhausted treatment options for my PCOS symptoms.I expressed that my main concerns were my very inconsistent periods and weight gain. She was helpful in getting medication to help induce periods, but that's where her helpfulness ended.She questioned my diagnosis and did additional blood testing to confirm I wasn't misdiagnosed. This was fine with me but not the point of my visit. When it came to weight loss, because my BMI isn't high enough for most weight loss medications she had no advice other than seeing a dietitian and eating 1200 or less calories (you know, starving myself!)My test results confirmed I have PCOS, she offered no additional next steps and told me 'because I'm unwilling to get on metformin or birth control' (I had a horrible GI reaction to metformin that left me unable to function and had been on BC for 10 years and still had the same symptoms I'm currently struggling with) she had no other advice.
