I will not be seeing Dr. Tushar Patel again. I had a five-minute phone call with Dr. Patel in April 2020 to be evaluated for COVID-19. I explained my symptoms to him -- I was experiencing severe difficulty breathing and fatigue and had had a fever, minor cough, and sore throat -- and he refused to order a test for me. After denying me COVID-19 testing and offering no other suggestions for treating my symptoms, he submitted a claim for $400 to my health insurance company. My health insurance covers telemedicine visits and COVID-19-related visits in full, yet Dr. Patel falsely claimed to the insurance company that our interaction was in-person and unrelated to COVID-19, leaving me with a $400 bill for a five-minute phone call. Dr. Patel provided no medical help and appears to be exploiting the epidemic, a time when many people are suffering health-wise and financially, to maximize his profits.
