Hi - I am a large man with severe knee arthritis. I was turned down by 4 surgeons because of my BMI, despite the fact that I'd already lost 100 lbs using diet alone because I couldn't stand or walk for more than a couple minutes due to advanced arthritis. Dr. Surma reviewed my history, examined me, and said he thought I was a good candidate for knee replacement. I had the first one done in June and got along excellently - was walking and driving in 3 weeks. Had the second one done three days ago and again, doing well. This is a doctor who is willing to look at and consider the whole patient rather than looking strictly at statistics and denying service based on them. I can't say enough about the skill and humanity of Dr. Surma. He is simply outstanding.
