I had my first appointment today. Background: I’ve seen many psychiatrists before not a nurse practitioner. I’ve never been diagnosed with Bipolar in the past. My symptoms don’t fit the criteria.This NP diagnosed me with Bipolar I before me saying a word about my situation. Before session: When I walked into her office, the first thing that caught my attention was that she was late, assessment papers were ancient and had corrections/white out marks everywhere. During: She sounded rushed and made comments under her breath. Everything I said, she repeated aloud as she typed. Diagnosed me with Bipolar I as soon as she walked into the office with me after reviewing the mood assessment answers. She saw me playing with my nail, I have broken acrylic nail, and classified it as mania. I noticed some pamphlets about medication for Bipolar I. End of session: She couldn’t help but to prescribe me with the medication that was advertised all around her office. In addition to that and add-on pill for anxiety. She kept telling me to answer yes or no. No explanations.
