In the Jewish tradition, to call someone a "mensch" is not just another compliment; it is the very highest form of praise one can give, basically that they are a role model for what is noble and good about humans. I would say that Dr. Roy is a mensch. This is partly based on evidence from seeing him over an extended period, but also on a feeling you get from him. When he's with you, he's really *with* you: he puts his body and soul into it, so to speak. He cares, as many good therapists do, but there is also a certain presence and wisdom, and depth. I might use some of the following adjectives: Honest, kind, passionate, spontaneous, intuitive, flexible, gentle, metaphorical, relational, open-minded. Sometimes opinionated (but transparent about why). Thinks out-of-the-box, but I'm not sure "laid-back" is quite the right term; he's a little too invested in the work. And he remains professional, with good boundaries. I can only speak for myself, of course. But probably worth a try.
