My father had a post hospital appointment to take a catheter out. He had seen the doctor previously and was diagnosed with a very large prostate. I reached out to the doctor the day before the appointment to tell him that there was an extraordinary amount of blood in the catheter container. I never heard back. We waited almost an hour, and finally a nurse came in to remove the catheter. We asked to see the doctor and were told it was not necessary (despite the previous day's call). We asked again. She reluctantly called for the doctor who entered the exam room looking bothered. He told us he was going to prescribe a prophylactic antibiotic. Dad (a doctor) asked him about a medication that shrinks the prostate. Dr H-G shrugged and said he didn't think it would do much good because dad's prostate was so large. I asked if there was any reason Dad shouldn't try it. He shrugged again and said he would prescribe it. He forgot to prescribe the antibiotic.
