Patient Reviews
Sep 22, 2023
Dr. Steriade is a creative and passionate neurologist. However, she was so confident about her plan that I felt like a prop by the end. We worked to control my focal seizures with three different medications. When I communicated that my side effects were debilitating my quality of life, she told me I would adjust with time. Six months of work were affected in this waiting game. One of the medications triggered two grand mals which had previously been controlled for 5 years. Similar to other neurologists at NYU, they see testing and brain surgery as a last resort option. Previous testing showed I am not a great candidate so it was frustrating to have more expensive testing for surgery presented as the logical next step. Her plan did not work and she apologized. I changed neurologists because she prioritized the dream of curing all seizures over a patient's quality of life.
