My 83 yo diabetic mom saw Dr. Starkweather for thick long big toe nail. It was her 1st time visit to a podiatrist; we expected a thorough exam and to receive diabetic foot care education, either by himself or one of his staff. None of which happened. After he found the Dorsalis Pedis, he never looked for the Posterior Tib, or Capillary Refill to document a baseline. There was no muskuloskeletal exam for strength and although the Semms Weinstein was performed, neither reflexes or vibratory sensation was evaluated. He did trim the toenail and only offered to thin it after our request. We also had to request he trim the callous that had formed on the adjacent toe due to the nail. Then he told her that she could use any shoe she wanted! He seemed to be in a hurry to leave the room since my mother was not a surgical candidate. I'm a podiatrist (retired) and am constantly asked to recommend a podiatrist & I will NOT be recommending Dr. Starkweather. Hope it was just a bad day for him.
