Dr. Challapalli spent the majority of the appointment talking at me. He asked me minimal questions about my mental health or my life. He asked me nothing about family history of mental health. He did* ask me if I have a boyfriend, or whether I've ever had a boyfriend, and why I broke up with my last boyfriend. He encouraged that my life will improve when I meet somebody I can incorporate my life with (APA ethical guidelines encourage against pushing personal worldviews on clients) I felt worse leaving his office after the appointment. I did not feel supported or heard. He also had his phone ringer on during our appointment, answered a phone call, forgot what he was talking about, asked me to remind him, and never apologized for answering the phone. I hope my experience is a unique one and others do not go through something like this. Mental health is extremely important and I encourage everyone to find a provider who is best for them.
